Read on:

Seedco Green Jobs Wage Subsidy Program Overview

Seedco is looking to partner with employers in the emerging green sector on a Green Jobs Wage Subsidy program. Through this program, the wages of approximately 130 new hire entry level employees will be subsidized for up to 6 months. This is an excellent opportunity for start-up and established businesses in the emerging green sector to build their workforce with minimal recruitment, hiring and training costs.

What is the Seedco Green Jobs Wage Subsidy Program?

The Seedco Green Jobs Wage Subsidy program is funded through President Obama’s stimulus program and is operated in coordination with the New York City Department of Human Resources. The program covers 100% of an eligible new hire’s wages, up to $14 per hour, for a period of 3 to 6 months. The program supports the growth of businesses in the emerging green sector while also incentivizing these businesses to fill entry level positions with appropriately matched public assistance recipients. Many public assistance recipients have skills and experience yet may need additional on-the-job support and training when starting out in the emerging green sector. Wage subsidies allow businesses to provide this training and support by subsidizing 100% of the wages for the first few months on the job.

What type of employers are we looking to partner with?

Our ideal employer partners:

Offer base wage of at least $8.00 per hour

Offer a minimum of 35 hours of work per week on average

Are committed to making a “best effort” attempt to retain 50% of the subsidized hires on their payroll after the subsidy period ends

What is the job seeker profile?

To qualify for wage subsidies a job seeker must be a current public assistance recipient. All of our job seekers have completed job readiness training programs and many have completed specialized programs in such areas as building maintenance, weatherization, customer service, and food service to name a few. Because public assistance recipients have a wide range of skills and educational backgrounds, they will be prescreened to meet the requirements set by the employer before they are referred for an interview. Our job seekers will have access to work support professionals if assistance during the first months of employment is needed.

What is the role of the employer?

Provide a job description detailing the requirements of the open positions

Interview pre-screened candidates and hire candidates that meet requirements

Receive reimbursement of 100% of the employees wage during the subsidy period and commit to making a “best effort” to retain 50% of the subsidized hires on their payroll after the subsidy period ends
